Youth Music is the leading UK charity investing in music-making projects for children and young people experiencing challenging circumstances. The Sound of the Next Generation is a comprehensive review of children and young people's relationship with music. Youth Music worked with Ipsos MORI to conduct online surveys with a representative sample of 1,001 young people aged 7 to 17 across England, as well as in-depth interviews with participants involved in Youth Music projects. This was followed up with a series of in-depth expert interviews with industry leaders, psychologists and academics to understand the context of our findings and the wider impact of music on society.
“We installed the projector in the electrical tray on the ceiling, connected this to the venue’s sound system via the audio out and we were ready to go. The set up was so quick and simple. “I needed to transport the equipment from our offices in London across to the venue. I was surprised at how lightweight and easy to transport both the screen and projector were.”
Cristina Barone, Corporate Officer at Youth Music
“This was an incredibly important event for us. Youth Music provides more than 89,000 young people with the opportunity to make music. Our music projects support young people to develop their creative and social skills and this latest research shines a light on the impact this has on their lives. “I can categorically say the event would not have been such a brilliant night without the AV equipment. It gave our young people a voice. We screened the video featuring young people talking about their relationship with music, which really brought home the results of the report. We then had a Powerpoint looping for the rest of the evening with images and stats from the report in a constant slide show backdrop. The imagery was great - large enough for everyone to see in the 120 capacity venue.”

Optoma gives young people centre stage at Youth Music event

Challenge

Leading UK charity, Youth Music, was launching a ground-breaking research report, The Sound of the Next Generation, and wanted to ensure the young people’s voice was central to the event.

It created video content with young people talking about their relationship with music and the positive, meaningful impact it has for them. It just needed a projector and portable screen that could be easily set up at the venue, Gibson Brands in London.  The projection distance between the screen and projector was over three and a quarter metres – so the projector needed to be bright and have a generous throw ratio.

The Sound of the Next Generation is a comprehensive review of children and young people's relationship with music.  This new research report by Youth Music and Ipsos MORI offers ground-breaking insights into the diverse ways young people value and engage with music and music-making.

Solution

The charity chose the Full HD HD39Darbee and 146cm wide DP-3072MWL pull up screen.

The powerful Full HD projector combines Darbee Visual Presence processing for extra depth and detail with high brightness (3,500 lumens), a large zoom range and vertical lens shift. This gives the projector excellent installation flexibility and bright, vibrant imagery.

With a lightweight portable design, Optoma MWL screens are easy to use and very stable.  They come in different sizes from 72” to 95” and 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios to meet most projection requirements.

Cristina Barone, Corporate Officer at Youth Music, said: “We installed the projector in the electrical tray on the ceiling, connected this to the venue’s sound system via the audio out and we were ready to go.  The set up was so quick and simple.
